On September 20th, 2012, Ofcom announced the award of two new community radio licences for services in Scotland. Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular geographical community or a community of interest.
One of the awards is to Crystal FM to provide a community radio service catering for all residents of Penicuik and its surrounding hinterland.
The Licence is awarded for a five-year period.
The Penicuik Community Education Association radio team will meet soon to advance the radio project that will provide a platform of communication for individuals, local organisations, sports clubs, businesses, community councils, Midlothian Council and our local schools to promote their news, activities and events across the airwaves to:
- Damhead
- Bilston
- Easter Howgate
- Roslin
- Rosewell
- Auchendinny
- Glencorse
- Milton Bridge
- Lonestone
- Howgate
- Leadburn
- Silverburn
- Ninemileburn
Opportunities to become involved in Crystal FM will arise as the radio team moves the project on for the benefit of all the communities within the radio service area.
